Itinerary
Your private driver‑guide collects you from your Paris hotel at 07:30 for a smooth, early departure that keeps the day relaxed and crowd‑light. Settle into a comfortable vehicle as the city fades and the landscapes of northern Burgundy unfold: gentle vineyards, limestone hills, and the wooded horizons of the Morvan Regional Park. Along the way, your guide shares easy‑to‑follow context on Burgundy’s terroirs, the Cluniac and Cistercian routes, and how Vézelay became a beacon for pilgrims and lovers of Romanesque art.
By mid‑morning, you arrive at Vézelay, a hilltop village crowned by the UNESCO‑listed Basilica of Sainte‑Madeleine.
Enter through the narthex and step into radiant Romanesque space where sculpted capitals and the changing light create a serene rhythm. Your will points out key scenes on the tympanum and the basilica’s harmonious proportions. Stroll the cloister, then meander through the village’s cobbled lanes lined with ateliers, galleries, and stone façades washed in honey tones. From the terrace, take in sweeping views over the rolling Morvan—one of Burgundy’s most stirring panoramas.
Late morning, you cross bucolic backroads into the Morvan toward Saulieu. The route is deliberately unhurried, revealing hedgerows, small farms, and mirror‑bright ponds. This is a softer, greener Burgundy, and the calm approach sets the tone for lunch.
In Saulieu, sit down at Relais Bernard Loiseau, a landmark of French art de vivre. Expect precise seasonality, luminous sauces, and textures that balance comfort with finesse. Choose a tasting menu or an à la carte path; The sommelier will coordinate Burgundy wine pairings that trace the region’s whites and reds from limestone‑driven elegance to deeper, silky structure. Dietary preferences are handled discreetly and in advance for a seamless experience.
After lunch, a short stroll brings you to the François Pompon Museum. Here, the sculptor’s celebrated Polar Bear and Menagerie reveal a modern mastery of line and volume—animals distilled to essence. Exhibits and workshop ambiance illuminate how Pompon’s radical simplicity influenced later generations. Your guide highlights signatures to spot: polished surfaces, tension in stillness, and form that breathes without ornament.
If time allows, the afternoon can transition smoothly to a leisurely walk through the picturesque Burgundian countryside, offering an opportunity to stretch your legs, breathe in the fresh air, and immerse yourself in the tranquil rural landscapes that define this beautiful region
you can also choose a Spa alternative in Replacement of the museum or Vezelay with relaxation time at Spa Relais Loiseau in Saulieu. OYou can choose a thermal circuit and 60–90 min treatments. We schedule a mid‑afternoon slot to preserve a relaxed pace and on‑time arrival in Paris.
As golden light softens the countryside, you begin the return to Paris. The ride is quiet and comfortable—an interval to review photos, jot a few impressions, or simply watch the landscape pass by. Your driver‑guide drops you at your hotel around 19:45, with the day’s through‑line clear in memory: sanctuary and sculpture, cuisine and countryside, woven together at an easy, unhurried pace.
